What is Travel CME?

Travel CMEsimply means earning accredited continuing medical education while you’re away from home—on a plane, at a hotel, or between adventures. What matters is that the activity is accredited, evidence‑based, and independent of marketing, just like any other CME. That’s exactly what the ACCME Standards for Integrity and Independence are designed to ensure.

Why doctors love Travel CME

• Make time work for you: Use flight time and evenings for focused learning; save clinic hours for patients.
• Keep momentum: Self‑paced, mobile formats (text + audio) let you advance a little each day.
• Come home ready: Choose courses that convert learning into real practice improvements (operations, reimbursement, leadership).
• Year‑end friendly: Many employers offer CME funds—Travel CME makes them easy to use during holiday or conference trips (employer rules vary).

How to do Travel CME (the simple way)

Step 1 — Pick an accredited course. Look for AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™ and a provider that follows ACCME Standards.
Step 2 — Plan your study windows. Block time for modules you can read or listen to offline.
Step 3 — Keep records. Save agendas, receipts, and a short time log; ask the provider for completion documents (certificate, etc.).
Step 4 — Finish & claim credit. Complete the post‑test/evaluation and download your certificate.

Documentation—for you and your employer

Most employers just need clear documentation that you completed accredited CME and, if relevant, did it during your trip. What you need:• Course agenda/syllabus and CME certificate
• Itinerary/boarding passes and lodging receipts
• Time log: dates/times you studied
• Employer approval (if using CME funds)
• Any provider letters supporting your completion while traveling
(For record‑keeping and what to show on your return, see IRS Pub 463.)
